Christmas is about God, not Rudolph or Frosty

| December 6, 2006 8:00 PM

I know this is not a politically correct letter. Christmas is coming and I wonder how many people will actually spend any time thinking of what Christmas is really about. The season is named after Christ, and yet emphasis is given to practically anything but Him over this so-called "winter holiday."

I was looking at the picture in the Dec. 5 issue of the Bee where the sweet little kids are singing, "We wish you a hairy 'chrismoose'," and it bothers me — Chrismoose? What a distortion of what "Christmas" really means — a mass for Christ — a celebration and thanks for His birth. I know, this song was something they were just doing for fun, but let them have fun with Rudolph or Frosty, not a play on Christ's name.

When our kids were little, they had the fun of believing in Santa, but they were taught about Jesus, that He was born in Bethlehem and is our Savior, the Son of God. We used to have Bible readings in school. We've replaced the Bible with school shootings. Now, the "G" word, and the "J" word (God and Jesus) are not allowed in public schools because they might "offend" someone.

This offends me, but worse than that, it offends God.

How can "God Bless America" when we constantly shut Him out of our lives?
