William M. 'Bill' Evans, 85

William M. "Bill" Evans, 85, passed away on Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006, at Lakeview Funeral Chapel

Bill was born on Oct. 12, 1921, in Leland, Idaho, the son of John and Nayda (McKay) Evans and grew up and attended local schools in the Leland area. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Farragut and later joined the military in 1940, serving with the U.S. Navy.

He met the love of his life, Hazel Walson, in Sandpoint and was married in July 1941. They were together for 55 years prior to her passing in January 1997.

Bill was a member of the Operating Engineers Union No. 302 and worked extensively on construction throughout Alaska and the Northwest. Upon retiring in 1982, he and Hazel settled in the Sandpoint area and made their winter home in Seattle at SeaTac, where they spent many fun-loving times. He was a member of the Elks, Eagles, American Legion and Moose Lodge for more than 45 years. He loved to go camping and enjoyed this hobby for many years with relatives and friends.

He also enjoyed traveling back to Petersburg and Juneau, Alaska, to see his great-grandchildren and enjoyed the scenery and friends that he loved so well, and Montana where he had met some great friends.

Survivors include good friend, Dorothey Lanza; daughters, Sharron (Jim) Crow of Juneau, Alaska, Judy Evans of Burien, Wash., and Linda (Jerry) Downing of Columbia Falls, Mont.; grandsons, Gary Vickers of Kootenai, Idaho, and Michael Brown of Lake Oswego, Ore.; granddaughters, Pam Sumpter of Juneau, Cheryl (Mike) File of Petersburg, Alaska, and Wendy (Karl) Mowat of Seattle, Wash., Heather Edie of Los Angeles, Calif., Krissie Edie of Missoula, Mont., and Christine Brown of New Mexico; nine great-grandchildren; Wes and Vivian Olson Family, Bus Walson and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorials may be made to the local Diabetes Association, the Kidney Association and Kinderhaven in his name.
