Bengals scorch Bulldogs with threes
SANDPOINT — It was pick your poison for Sandpoint as they fell to 5A Lewiston 62-34 Tuesday night in Inland Empire League action at Sandpoint Middle School.
The Bengals (4-4, 3-1) at times boasted a line-up with three girls taller than six-feet, so the Bulldogs (1-6, 0-2) chose to take their inside game away. The Bengals proceeded to move their game outside, hitting 10-25 three pointers to put the game away. Guard Joey Larsen did most of the damage from outside en route to a game-high 19 points.
Kim Guercio scored nine points to lead Sandpoint, and Brittany Oakley added six points, three assists and three steals. Post Lynn DiBenedetto had seven rebounds to go with her six points. The hustle was there, and when they got the shots many of them fell, but the younger Bulldogs were mostly plagued by turnovers.
"We're struggling scoring and missing opportunities, and part of that is inexperience," said coach Jim Alsager, noting that Lewiston is one of the top teams in the IEL. "A lot of the turnovers came from not understanding where to put the ball. There's no time to pout, we'll get ready for Lakeland on Thursday."
