Let Congress know how you feel about GOP sex scandal

| December 13, 2006 8:00 PM

The House Ethics Committee found no evidence that any current lawmakers or aides violated any rules and recommended no sanctions in the case that cost Congressman Foley, R-Fla., his seat in the House. Saying, "there is some evidence that political considerations played a role in decisions that were made by persons in both parties."

A close reading of the evidence shows a different picture. To begin with Foley was elected in 1995 and concerns over his behavior surfaced shortly after he took office. He had a pattern of collecting personal information and e-mails from the pages and e-mailing them "sexually graphic topics, including messages that could be read as sexual solicitation."

What kind of cover-up is going on here? This was a Republican "secret." Democrats on the Ethics Committee were never told or shown any evidence of Foley's behavior, even though many Republican leaders were aware.

What if this conspiracy of silence, is only the tip of the iceberg. Could it be that those who are trying hardest to cover-up what they knew about Foley, are also indulging themselves in this same ugly pastime?

Sex scandals are not new in D.C., but pedophilia is a horse of a different color. Steps need to be taken which will weed the garden and expose the guilty. It is vitally important for our children to grow up without the fear of being violated by a powerful adult. Write your congressperson and tell them how you feel.
