Vikings thump Bulldogs, 89-31
SANDPOINT — Sandpoint found out first hand just how good the No. 1 ranked team in the state is, falling 89-31 to the Coeur d'Alene Vikings Monday night in Inland Empire League action at Les Rogers Court.
Kama Griffitts led the Vikings (9-0, 5-0) with 18 points, as they used some torrid shooting and balanced scoring to build a 51-18 half time lead. Amy Warbrick added 12, and sophomore Kelsi DeHaas, in her first varsity action, scored all 10 of her points in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Brittany Oakley led the younger Bulldogs (1-8, 0-4) with 12 points and four steals, and freshman Christina Johnson added six as the Bulldogs had trouble running with the Vikings bigger players.
"Their posts are running much better than last year," said Bulldogs' coach Jim Alsager of the Vikings attack. "That makes a big difference when you're trying to catch up and they can just go over the top of you."
Alsager was happy with his team's composure, and despite the one-sided score, believes his team is making strides in the right direction. Kim Guercio added four steals, and Lynn DiBenedetto led the Bulldogs with five rebounds.
Sandpoint plays Cheney today at 4 p.m. in the Cheney Tournament.
