Bulldogs fall to Lakeside
CHENEY — After playing three games in a span of four days, the Bulldog girls put all they had into a double-digit comeback, but ran out of gas as they fell to Lakeside, Wash., 51-44 Thursday in the Cheney Tournament.
After going scoreless for the first five minutes of the game to fall behind, Brittany Oakley led a spirited comeback, scoring 13 points and providing solid defensive hustle for the Bulldogs (1-10). Freshman Christina Johnson continues to emerge, adding 10 points, and Alissa Tenuto was solid inside with eight points and eight rebounds.
"We stunk it up in the first quarter," said coach Jim Alsager. "We had a big hole to dig out of, but we played great defense and chipped away."
Sandpoint eventually tied the game at 43-43 with two minutes left, but a missed layup and a turnover ended their comeback bid. They finished 11-24 from the free throw line, which proved to be the difference in the game.
Sandpoint will get some much needed rest, as well as valuable practice time, and resume play with Post Falls on Jan. 3.
