Richard Lewis Jasman, 54
Richard Lewis Jasman, 54, passed away on Dec. 15, 2006, following a heart attack while on vacation in Thailand.
Richard was born on Nov. 28, 1952, in Sandpoint. He went to grade school at Southside and graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1971. Following his first year in college at University of Idaho, he was drafted into the Army and spent about two years in Germany as a medic. He then returned to University of Idaho and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in bacteriology.
His first employment was with Panhandle Health in Coeur d'Alene. He then worked at the University of Idaho, primarily as a lab technician in veterinary science. Subsequently, he moved to Seattle and worked in medical research at the University of Washington.
For the past 16 years, he worked at ICOS Corporation, a biomedical research company in Seattle, where he was a respected senior scientist in the research department, striving to produce therapies for conditions such as cancer, asthma, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Richard loved to travel and visited many countries over the years, enjoying a variety of cultures, peoples and foods.
He is survived by his parents, Art and Jean Jasman of Sagle; a brother, James Jasman of Sagle; four sisters, Cynthia Jasman of Colbert, Wash., Joyce (Paul) Sheley of Sagle, Linda (Mark) Bell of Sagle, and Lora Jasman (Christopher) Biermann of Philomath, Ore; numerous nieces and nephews, including Naomi, Jessica, Stephanie and Isaac Sheley, Lori Jasman, and Audra and Heidi Biermann. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, at First Baptist Church at 1230 Michigan St., Sandpoint.
