Rec center facility is all about the community

| February 4, 2006 8:00 PM

I am a 67-year-old woman on a fixed income of $471 a month and I am writing about the recreation district vote. You may be surprised that I am not following the lead of so many self-centered locals who have been whining and sniveling about $8 month going toward making our community better. They are pretending it is a bad idea when, in fact, they are simply being cheap.

I look forward to the walking track and to seeing my grandchildren figure skating and swimming. Maybe I will use the current pool as well as the walking track when the woods are unavailable for travel. OK, $8 month. Is it worth it? Is it worth the equivalent of three bags of chips a month, or two video rentals or one 12-pack of beer? Of course it is. This is not a video arcade or junk food chain store. It is a recreation district that will build healthy minds and bodies for all of us juniors and seniors.

Do you want to be know as the little town that "could have" but wouldn't? There are so many people, especially in my generation, who don't want to contribute to anything but themselves.

Stop living in your old wrinkled minds. It's not "all about you;" it's about all us, Sandpoint. I am voting "yes" and I hope you will, too.
