There is no excuse to not vote in election

| February 4, 2006 8:00 PM

There is no excuse for not casting your vote. Remember, if you don't vote, don't complain. Don't let the few decide what's best for the majority.

Properly taxes are way out of control and people are outraged at the state of Idaho's attitude. Homeowners pay the majority of taxes and business's share has been reduced tremendously. People are being unfairly taxed out of their homes. This is a disgrace. California had the same problem, and when the state didn't solve the problem, the people did with Prop 13.

With the over-taxation that now exists, only a person or group without a clue would attempt to raise property taxes even further before some reform and tax relief has taken place (unless of course that person or group is so well off financially as to be immune to the effects of the current and proposed tax increase, unlike the majority of us.)

The infrastructure of Sandpoint and Bonner County has first priority when it comes to tax assessments. The well-being of our citizens and community is paramount. Schools, roads, sewer treatment, water quality, health care, law enforcement, fire, parks — these are in dire need of funding.

Only with a combination of affordable public support as well as private involvement should any recreation facilities be considered. And certainly not a $12 million facility. This is way overboard. Let a citizens group and private entities put a proposal together that makes fiscal sense. Vote "no" now.
