Rec district support is appreciated

| February 11, 2006 8:00 PM

Now that the vote is behind us, the supporters of the Sandpoint Center would like to express our sincere thanks to the entire community in regard to our effort to create a recreational district to fund a community center. We greatly appreciate the many letters to the editor as well as all the personal comments and suggestions given to us throughout this entire process.

All comments, whether in favor or opposed, have been helpful to us for setting our future direction. We would also like to thank the Bonner County Daily Bee, Blue Sky Broadcasting and many others for providing us an opportunity to present our plan to the public. Kudos also to Marie Scott and her staff at the county clerk's office and all those who worked so hard to man the polls and count the ballots. Most of all, we wish to express our gratitude to every individual who voted.

The recreation center is a tremendous idea and promises to serve the members of our community for years to come. We fully understand the anger against rising property taxes. And yet, as evidenced by the excitement generated during the very successful signature drive, you gave us another message every bit as loud and as clear as that given on Tuesday, i.e., that our community both wants and needs a multi-use recreational facility. So the dream lives on and we look forward to redressing this issue in the near future. For now, we beg all of you to support the school levy. The children of our community need your support.
