Voters made it clear

| February 11, 2006 8:00 PM

Robert Pierce has repeatedly made vague accusations of misinformation and scare tactics, but provided no specific examples of inaccuracies in my letters. If alerting people of a tax proposal that most people find frightening is a scare tactic, I suppose he could argue that I have attempted to scare people by providing them with the facts.

I find it interesting that he doesn't dispute any of the facts in my letter, and I have done extensive research to ensure that my campaign took the high road and made no misleading or inflammatory statements. The state of Idaho has no control of what our property values become, that is a factor of a market economy.

It is easy to point fingers at Boise and say that they need to do something about taxes and in turn, they point at the fact that it is also our responsibility to vote at the local level to control our own spending. Both points of view are partially right yet partially wrong.

It is important to remember that 42.9 percent of our registered voters voted and hundreds of new voters registered for this special election. This turnout for a single-issue special election is outstanding, and I would like to thank all the voters for their time and dedication in making it clear that when we vote together we can keep our taxes affordable.

Lastly, I would ask that in the future voters are cautious about signing petitions. This will limit issues that do not have reasonable merit being placed on the ballot.
