Don't use constitution as tool of discrimination

| February 13, 2006 8:00 PM

It was a sad day when we, as Americans, decided that we had to have laws to protect us from discrimination. We now have them to protect us against discrimination on the basis of sex, religion, race and virtually everything else. Washington state just passed legislation banning discrimination against gays and lesbians, so we have gone beyond protecting individuals to protecting groups.

Now we have many Idahoans wanting to pass a constitutional amendment that would promote discrimination against groups. Why should our constitution, which is supposed to protect us, be used as a tool to discriminate against us?

Why? Why do we feel that we must pick on others? In an effort to avoid discrimination we discriminate against others. Why is this necessary?

What ever happened to "Do unto others …?"
