People have spoken on proposed rec district

| February 13, 2006 8:00 PM

"We The People" have spoken and Mr. Pierce refuses to open his ears and listen. Eighty-eight percentis a mandate, not a simple mandate but an overwhelming mandate. The majority has spoken. It is a message to all politicians that the taxpayers of Bonner County have had enough. Commissioners, are you listening?

I am personally outraged at Mr. Pierce in his comments concerning the election outcome. He is disappointed that more voters did not turn out to vote. I suspect he is disappointed more did not turn out to vote for this debacle.

I don't see any difference in this election than any other in the past 10 years other than the overwhelming outcome. Along those same lines if it is similar to past elections it means we can look forward to election after election until it is rammed down our throats, something akin to our school levys.

Mr. Pierce also complains about the pre-election tactics. Misinformation, mass mailings and scare tactics are a normal part of elections these days. But I think the people saw through your misinformation Mr. Pierce. The mass mailings were done by some concerned property owners and it appears it worked well. And the problem with this is? And the scare tactics, as you call them, were people presenting data that made your endeavor itself look scary. I guess you must think the people that voted are just a bunch of idiots that don't know what's good for them.

In the end though I think the people felt that this was a bad idea. If it was so good the turnout would have been much better with all those additional people voting for the rec center. You can try and twist things Mr. Pierce but the outcome of the election says it all.

Now don't go away mad, just go away.
