Bessie Margaret Payne, 75

Bessie Margaret Payne, 75, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho on Feb. 14, 2006.

Family services will be held in the spring in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Bessie was born in Sandpoint, Idaho, on March 11, 1930, the daughter of Charles and Anna Roe. She attended Bonner County schools.

For many years she worked as a hostess and waitress at Connie's Cafe, and also at the Edgewater. She retired in the '90s and moved to Hayden. She volunteered at both the animal shelter and the food bank in Hayden.

She was a member of the Sandpoint Eagles and liked to raise flowers. She enjoyed people, her family and her grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter, Freda (Smokey) Chubb of Sandpoint; sons Doug (Cari) Stockdale and Stan Stockdale of Sandpoint; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother Bob Roe of Los Gatos, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Kathy and four sisters.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Coffelt Funeral Service.
