Jack Edwin Jones

Jack Edwin Jones of Boise, Idaho, and a former resident of Mt. Home, Idaho, entered into rest on Feb. 19, 2006.

Viewing will be held at Summers Funeral Chapel, 1205 W. Bannock in Boise, on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, between the hours 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will held on Feb. 23 at All Saints Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. under the direction of Summers Funeral Home.

Internment will be on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at 1 p.m.,at Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Sandpoint. Vicar JP Carver of St. Agnes Episcopal Church officiating.

Jack was born Dec. 19, 1921, to Thomas and Beatrice Jones. He was raised in Sandpoint with his two sisters, Iris and Mary. Jack married Joan Elder in 1941. They spent their lives together raising their boys, Steve and Jack, and spoiling their grandchildren.

Jack serviced in the Navy and Army. Following this service in the Army he attended the University of Idaho where completed his bachelor of science degree and his master's degree in education. He also played football for the University of Idaho. He spent his years in education as a coach, teacher, principal and finally, as a school superintendent in Bonners Ferry, Sandpoint, and finally Mt. Home, retiring in 1983.

His dedication to helping others continued after his retirement as he served on a multitude of committees, and organizations. Among these were the Idaho Education Association, a member emeritus of the American Association of School Administrators, the Idaho Superintendents Association, an honorary lifetime member pass holder of the Idaho Activities Association, the Idaho Pharmacy Board, the Elks, AARP, Area 3 Council on Aging and, his special love, the Idaho Vandal Boosters.

Jack is survived by his sister, Mary Verdal, of Sandpoint; his sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and DeeDee Jones, of Caldwell, Jack and Sherry Jones, of Nampa; six grandchildren: Leslie Nielsen of Caldwell, Tom Jones of Nampa, Shelley and David Malmberg of Caldwell, Jodi and Derek Harroun of Caldwell, Julie and Michael Bernhart of Galesburg, ILL and Kirsti and Todd Cady; 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joan; his sister, Iris; his special friend and brother-in-law, Thor Verdal, and his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the University of Idaho Vandal Scholarship Fund, Kibbie Activity Center 235W, PO Box 442304, Moscow, Idaho 83844-2304 or a charity of your choice.
