Bulldogs have tough day at state wrestling tourney

| February 24, 2006 8:00 PM

POCATELLO — It was a tough day at state for Sandpoint wrestling. An injury and a few close losses marked the second day of the Idaho State Wrestling Championships at Holt Arena.

When all of the dust had settled, Chad Spade (125) was the only Bulldog to find himself in the finals after two convincing wins. His teammate and fellow competitor in the 125-pound draw, Joey Fio, had to withdraw with a knee injury after winning his first match, eliminating a chance for an all-Bulldog final.

Tim Pepperdine (103) won his first match, and then lost a 7-6 heartbreaker in the semifinals, and will battle for third place today. Alec Ward will also battle for third after winning his first match and then falling in the semis.

Kyle Meschko (145) rebounded from his first-round loss by dominating his next three opponents, and will get a shot at redemption against his first-round opponent today as he guns for third place.

Jerod Morris (171) lost his first match 8-7, won his second and lost his third and final match of Friday.

Sheldon Cramer (215) won his first match, then lost 1-0 to the No. 1 seed from Nampa. He will battle for third place today.
