Woman's failure to thank teen amazes mother

| February 27, 2006 8:00 PM

I'm writing this letter in hopes of reaching one person and maybe for a few others to think about. On Feb, 15, my two daughters and a friend were at Wal-Mart. My oldest daughter while standing in the checkout line found an Panhandle State Bank envelope, she picked it up and found $2,201 in cash inside. She turned it in to the customer service counter along with her name and phone number. The following morning I also filed a police report with the Ponderay Police Department.

The officer called later in the afternoon to tell me that a woman had claimed it that evening. She was also given my daughter's name and number. To date, my daughter has not even received as much as a thank you from this person. The reason for this letter is really out of frustration. If someone returned $2,201 to me that I lost, at the very least I would call to say thank you. The only reason I can think of for not calling would be that this woman can't speak or read the name and number or was not taught any manners.

This was a 16-year-old who returned your money. Do you realize how fortunate you are to get it back? As a parent I am extremely proud. And, no she didn't call and ask me what she should do, she already knew. But as for you, you should be ashamed of yourself. Next time you might not be so lucky.
