Leland Robert Goss, 71, passed away in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on Dec. 28, 2005.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, in Coffelt's Funeral Chapel. The Rev. J.P. Carver, St. Agnes Episcopal Church, will officiate.

Leland was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., on Jan. 19, 1934, graduating from high school in 1952 in Newport, Vt.

He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a captain, flying B-26 bombers, and later working as a flight instructor out of Boeing Field.

He worked for Boeing in Seattle and attended Seattle University. He helped start Kem Equipment, developing hydraulic systems for fishing boats and the lumber industry. He worked on the Seattle freeway system, developing the express lanes.

He married Susan Altentaler on June 12, 1973, in Seattle, Wash.

In 1984, h moved to the Seattle area and started Aptech, in Ponderay, building diesel-powered generators for government and commercial applications. The business was closed in 2004.

He enjoyed barbecuing and smoking food for family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Goss of Sandpoint; two children, Bob Goss of Yakima, Wash., and Melanie Baird of Snohomish, Wash.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Stearns of Loveland, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint.
