SHS girls outscored by Moscow
SANDPOINT — It seemed as if there was a cellophane lid over the rim for much of the night for the Sandpoint girls. They were outscored by visiting Moscow 17-2 in the first quarter and could never close the gap as they fell 47-28 to the Bears Friday night at the Sandpoint Middle School.
Kendal Burt led the Bulldogs (6-8, 2-5) with 16 points, five rebounds and three steals and provided most of the offensive punch.
"She's been very steady for us," said coach Jim Alsager of Burt. "She was very natural; I was proud of her composure tonight. She played her game, rebounded and just played good basketball."
Burt did a nice job in holding 6-foot-3 center Kelsey Taylor, who will play volleyball for Idaho next fall, to nine points. Kelly Scott led the Bears (5-10, 4-4) with 16 points.
The Bulldogs' shooting woes were not for lack of good looks. It seemed every three found a way to rim out, and none of the mid-range jumpers were falling.
"I thought we got good looks," said Alsager. "It comes down to putting the ball through the hole, and tonight we couldn't do it."
Freshman guard Kim Guercio had six points and five rebounds and fellow freshman Brittany Oakley led the team with five assists.
The Bulldogs travel to Mt. Baker on Tuesday.
