Don't kill Lake Pend Oreille

| January 15, 2006 8:00 PM

Idaho Lakes Commission is going to hold a meeting to take a position on the Rock Creek Mine, which could be very harmful to the downstream fishery, including Pend Oreille Lake. If you are concerned about the welfare of our lake, please attend the 2 p.m. meeting on January 25 at the Idaho Commerce & Labor building and voice your concerns over this very important issue.

They also are going to discuss the spread of Eurasian milfoil which to me is the worst thing to happen to our lake. However, the biggest catastrophe of all is to let the Idaho Department of Fish and Game put gill nets in the late. It will kill the lake and it will not assist in the recovery of the blue backs.

So let's stop gill netting before it starts. I'd suggest they take the money they are going to spend on gill netting and put it to another use, like fighting milfoil.

It's not too late to make a difference, but if we do nothing we will have to face the consequences, so please join me in attempting to save our lake.
