Taxpayers shouldn't fund private businesses
We are seeing a disturbing trend lately in this country relative to what is truly public or private. A great move is on to push a recreation center down the throats of the taxpayers of Bonner County. They want a private business to be funded/supported by taxpayer dollars.
Anybody see something wrong here? Geez, I hope so. First we have the Supreme Court validating a law that allows a government entity to come and take your private property and give it to someone more deserving. Now our local government is willing to make you subsidize a private business. If the rec center will be so popular and used so much why isn't the business willing to make a go of it themselves?
There is one analogy that comes to mind, although on a much larger scale. In many cities across this country we have governments spending the public money to build sports stadiums. These monuments are generally provided for one particular sports team. A team that is in the business to make money. Of course you have the argument of all the jobs it creates and the taxes, etc. That is all garbage as proved by the privately funded baseball stadium in San Francisco.
The funding of private business by taxpayer money is morally and ethically wrong and will lead to considerable problems down the road.
I'm just trying to figure out how I can get you all to fund a business for me.
