Taxpayers don't need to pay any more taxes

| January 18, 2006 8:00 PM

Like many other residents here, we have seen our property taxes nearly triple in the last few years. What the Sandpoint Centre Corporation is proposing will create another new tax entity with no end in sight. As long as the assessments go up, and I don't see that ending any time soon, the amount of that new tax put on the property owners also goes up.

The creation of a recreation district tax gives no consideration at all to the many longtime residents who are already struggling to keep up with the new assessed taxes. This is an unfair tax burden for the benefit of a few.

We raised our sons here. They never lacked for things to do with the lake in the summer and Schweitzer in the winter. Where we come from, the ice rinks are private (and successful) businesses. If Dr. Pierce feels this strongly about adding a new recreation center and rink, then we recommend that he put together a group of investors and build one. That would be wonderful! Just don't try to do this on the backs of the already over-taxed property owners.

Vote no on the creation of a recreation district tax.
