Wallace defeats Clark Fork girls
WALLACE — Wallace junior Lisa Carver scored a game-high 22 points as the Lady Miners remained unbeaten in North Star League play with a 62-48 win over the Clark Fork Wampus Cats at Wallace High School on Friday night.
Jolene Meredith led the Wampus Cats (3-11, 3-3) with 13 points on 6-12 shooting, and Rashell Trunnell posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards. Bailey Hewitt added 10 points and team-high four assists, and Tiffany Van Buren led the Cats with 11 rebounds.
"We played pretty well tonight, they're a very good team," said coach Mark Stevens of the second-ranked 1A team in the state. "On their court I was happy to stay that close."
The Cats more than held their own against Wallace (15-1, 5-0) for most of the game, save for a cold shooting third quarter where they were outscored 22-3. The Cats have come on of late, positioning themselves for a run at state.
"I'm feeling pretty good about it right now," said Stevens. "I knew at some point we'd come together and play well. I'm pretty excited heading into districts."
