Tax-supported luxuries don't deserve support

| January 23, 2006 8:00 PM

The current imbroglio over creation of the proposed recreation district is an excellent example of what can happen if you don't pay attention. It seemed like a good idea to build a safe place where children could gather to enjoy the things they do, so I willingly signed the petition to get it on the ballot.

After all, it was "… for the children …" Others, more aware of the full dimensions of the project, have revealed the redundancy, the tax cost and the full dimensions of the albatross we would be tying to our collective necks if we vote "yes" on Feb. 7. Even carefully thought out tax-supported luxuries are problematic. Certainly this project should be voted down!
