CLARK FORK — Senior post Tyler Broggi was dominant in the paint Tuesday night as the Clark Fork Wampus Cats ran away from Kootenai 56-34 in North Star League action.

Broggi finished with 23 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks, doing most of his damage on second chance put-backs from the blocks.

"He's pretty athletic for our league," said Cats' coach Brian Powell. "He blocks, rebounds, scores and does a lot of little things for us."

Anthony Cranford led the Warriors (3-13, 1-7) with 14 points, and Jeff Ness added 10 as the younger Warriors struggled to match up with both the Cats' size and experience.

"We talked about making sure we had position on their big guys and we worked on breaking their 1-3-1 press," said Warriors' coach Mike LaFountaine, whose team struggled at times against half-court pressure. "Tonight we didn't get either done."

Clark Fork (8-9, 6-4) will host 3A Bonners Ferry next Tuesday.

Girls game:

CLARK FORK — Kootenai's Cassie Scheffelmaier hit three consecutive bombs from behind the arc in the second quarter as the Warriors built a 13 point half-time lead and held on for a 38-34 North Star League win over Clark Fork Tuesday night.

"We went flat in the second quarter," said Cats' coach Mark Stevens, whose team only managed two points. "Scheffelmaier was MVP of the league last year. She's a great shooter and that really hurt us in the second quarter."

Scheffelmaier finished with game-high 13 points to lead the Warriors (15-5, 8-2), followed by Hanna Nyrop and Nakita Amy with eight apiece.

After a talking to at half, the Cats (6-12, 6-4) mounted a second half comeback, led by Rayna Allen and Jolene Meredith, who both had seven steals as the Cats employed a 1-3-1 press. Meredith added 10 rebounds and four points, and Bailey Hewitt scored 10 as the Cats could get no closer than three. It was senior night for Tia Becker, Jolene Meredith, Rashell Trunnell, Tiffany Van Buren, and Abby Love.

"Rayna really got us going in the second half," said Stevens. "The girls fought back from 13 down to make a game of it. I'm really proud of them for not giving up."

Clark Fork will play Mullan on Monday in the opening game of the 1A District tournament, where a win could mean a rematch with Kootenai.
