Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday July 8, 2006, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint with Charley Packard officiating. Inurnment will take place at Pinecrest Cemetery next to her late husband, Stan.
Dollie was born in Wheeling, W.V., on June 28, 1918, to Timothy and Minnie Barrett. She grew up and attended schools there, and later in California.
In 1937, she married Billy A. Sims in Garden Grove, Calif., and they later divorced in January 1951.
She then moved to Granite, Idaho, where she married Stanley C. Phippard. Together they ran "Stan's Place," the little tavern on Highway 95. Stan passed away in 1958, and she continued to run the tavern and later changed the name to "Dollies."
She had many friends who helped her through the years after Stan's death. In 1994 she sold the tavern and moved to Kootenai to be closer to her daughter and family.
Dollie truly enjoyed people and was always there to help anyone who needed it. She will be missed deeply by all of her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, reading and flowers.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharron "Sherry" (Oscar) Rex of Kootenai; six grandchildren, Grant Rex of McKenna, Wash., Mark (Margaret) Rex of Union Town, Wash., Cindy (Alan) Smith of Spirit Lake, Idaho, Debbie Ozbun of Elmira, Idaho, Kip (Jennifer) Rex of Athol, Idaho, and Carrie (Douglas) Childers of California; nine great-grandchildren; nieces, Janice Sims of Texas and Joyce Lawson of Oregon; and nephew, Larry Sims of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stan; a son, Gary Sims in 2002; and a great-grandson, L.J., in 2005.
