Boge, Newton are on the right track

| July 10, 2006 9:00 PM

Evidently, the mayor of Sandpoint is furious that two City Council members on their own and their own expense have sent out a survey to city residents to find out their opinions and feelings about certain issues in our community.

I very much respect the integrity and honesty of Michael Boge and Helen Newton. They really care and want to do what is best for this town and its citizens.

One of the ways to do that is to find out what people think are important, so that they can take that into consideration in their decisions and votes. After all, they were elected by the people to serve as their representatives, not the interests of special interest groups.

The mayor should instead applaud what they are doing — maybe if he would bother to listen he could also learn a little from this survey about what the people who live here feel about the directions this community should take that will affect their daily lives as well as their pocketbooks.
