Sandpoint All Stars alive in tournament
Sandpoint's 9-10 year-old All Stars made history Saturday when they became the first Minor League team to defeat a Lewiston team in tournament play. The Sandpoint Minors were able to hang on to a 12-10 lead into the sixth inning over Lewiston, after nearly blowing an 11-1 lead.
Gavan Rosteck recorded the win with four innings of excellent pitching and Dean Knaggs chalked up the save. Knaggs, Carson Paull, Chase Rodriquez and Nathan Schwartz were credited for outstanding defensive play while everyone got into the act at the plate. Coach Eric Paull, a Lewiston native, called the game "a great team effort with everyone contributing towards the win."
The Sandpoint Major All Stars, after drubbing St. Maries 15-0 in the opening game on Saturday, lost 4-1 Sunday to Hayden Lake.
The Minor's next challenge will come from the Hayden All Stars, last year's state champion, Saturday at 5 p.m. The Majors will aslo play Saturday in the double elimination tourney. All games will be played at Canfield Sports Complex.
