Lumbermen bats too much for Lakers

| July 17, 2006 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE — The Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen (15-3, 30-12) racked up hit after hit on Monday at McEuen Field, en route to a 25-1 and 10-0 doubleheader sweep over the Riley Creek Lakers (6-9, 8-23).

"Everybody hit," Cd'A coach Lloyd Duman said. "It was a slugfest on our part."

The Lumberman struck first in the opening game, posting eight runs in the first inning. Meanwhile, Daley Benson (7-1) kept things in check from the mound.

The hurler allowed one run off six hits, with six strikeouts, for the complete-game win.

Nick Duman and Cory Kreighbaum each had six RBIs.

"I don't know if I've ever seen us hit the ball as well as we hit — 24 hits tells the tale," the Cd'A coach said. "The theme of the day was that everyone hit the ball hard.

Clay Montgomery had three hits as the Lakers could never get their offense clicking in full gear.

They'll try and get the sticks warm today when they host Lewiston at 1 p.m. at War Memorial Field.
