Babe Ruth heads to state tourney

| July 18, 2006 9:00 PM

The 2006 Panhandle Babe Ruth All-Stars head for the state tournament in Moscow this week. With several players returning from last year's team and the addition of some talented new players, they have a legitimate chance to win the tournament and move on.

They have an 8-6 record in tournament play through two tournaments. They are coached by Chuck Karle, Woody Hawkins, Jack Hammack, and manager Robyn Karle.

Their first game is today against Moscow at 4 p.m. This is a rematch of a game that Panhandle won 7-6, in the bottom of the seventh inning, for the come from behind win at the Firecracker Tournament two weeks ago in Sandpoint. This game should be another close one and should have some of the same fireworks and rivalry of the first.

They play against teams from Central Idaho and North Side on Thursday and Friday, respectively. If they finish first or second in their pool, they will play Saturday in the championship rounds.
