Landowners have the right to gate their property

| June 3, 2006 9:00 PM

This is Bonner County in the United States of America, a free country. So, as a citizen, rich or poor, it is your right to live where and how you choose.

It is also your right to fence off your property if you choose and gate your driveway if desired. Some Americans like to live away from others and some like to live close to others. This is our right in a free society. America just celebrated Memorial Day weekend, remembering those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms. Please honor them by accepting your neighbors and utilizing your right as an American to have your opinion heard when you vote.

Please do not dishonor them by not voting and opposing our basic freedoms of whether we can gate our driveways if we choose and live the way we want. Remember private property is just that, private to the owner. And the owner's right and freedom to do as desired so long as laws and ordinances are adhered to.

Developments in Bonner County are inevitable and being planned and approved daily. Examples would be Hidden Lakes, Iron Horse and others. These developments will improve the tax base of Bonner County and provide the money necessary to enhance the quality of life and amenities such as schools, roads and public services. These developments generate jobs, retail sales and growth. As residents of Bonner County it is our right to vote and voice our opinions at public hearings. At public hearings, you voice your opinions on the adherence to the laws, ordinances and impact to Bonner County. Not to denounce the basic freedoms we all share and enjoy as American citizens.
