Kip Oliver Smith, 39, passed away in Colburn, Idaho, on Saturday, June 3, 2006.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2006, in the Sandpoint First Christian Church. Dale Coffelt will officiate. Friends may call to pay their respects on Thursday afternoon from noon until 6 p.m. and on Friday until 6 p.m.

Kip was born on May 29, 1967, in Sandpoint, Idaho, the son of Larry and Joyce Smith. He attended Farmin Elementary School and graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1985. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 111, and earned his Eagle rank while still in high school. His Eagle Scout project was the handicap ramp that serves as the entrance to Sandpoint Community Hall. He was also inducted into the Order of the Arrow.

He began working for Encoder Products while still in high school, and was currently a lead machinist.

Kip married Shahna Rears on Aug. 8, 1992, in Sandpoint.

He was a member of the Winter Riders Snowmobile Club in Sandpoint. Kip enjoyed all outdoor activities — four-wheeling, snowmobiling, boating, hunting, fishing and camping. Most of all, he liked to share these activities with his family and friends. He will be missed as a loving husband, son, brother, uncle and friend.

Kip is survived by his wife, Shahna Smith of Sagle, Idaho; his parents, Larry and Joyce Smith of Sandpoint; a sister, Brenda (Smith) and Tony Yanik of Sandpoint; a nephew, Joey Yanik of Sandpoint; his grandmother, Edna Johnson of Kingston, Idaho; his parents-in-law, Ron and Liz Cox of Sagle; and a large extended family in the Silver Valley. He was preceded in death by three grandparents and a cousin.

Memorial donations for the Boy Scouts of America and the Winter Riders Snowmobile Club may be made to the Kip Smith Memorial Fund at any Panhandle State Bank branch.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint.
