Residents must do preserve county's EMS system
Recent opportunities to observe Bonner County's emergency medical teams and personnel in action have produced some interesting observations.
Last fall, a paramedic hiked miles back into the woods, spent a night camped out with an injured person, stayed until a helicopter could life him out. Not much profit in that, but excellent care.
Recently, a paramedic spent a long time in a parking lot trying to persuade a patient to go to the hospital. Learning she was concerned about her beloved pet dog, he arranged for the little dog's tender care. Then the woman could go for the treatment she needed. What wonderful patient care.
Also recently, I watched Northside Fire personnel, a paramedic, and Bonner County ambulance crew respond to a call in another parking lot. It was a joy to see the practiced cooperation and skill in getting the patient loaded and off to needed hospital care.
We all need to be aware of how great the Bonner County system is, how well the members care for their patients, how beautifully the system works as a whole. We must do whatever is necessary to preserve our system so quality care is there when we need it.
