Priest Lake accident kills elderly man

PRIEST LAKE — A n elderly Coolin man died after a traffic collision on Highway 57 on Friday afternoon.

Idaho State Police identified the man as Stanley J. Kozlowski, 85, of Coolin.

Kozlowski died Friday afternoon from injuries suffered in a two-car collision at the intersection of Highway 57 and Dickensheet Road. The crash happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. about 2 miles south of Priest Lake.

State police said Kozlowski was westbound on Dickensheet and turned southbound onto Highway 57 without yielding at a stop sign.

Kozlowski reportedly drove his Chrysler LeBaron into the path of a northbound Plymouth Voyager minivan driven by Samantha Davis, 23, of Priest Lake.

Nelson was reportedly heading northbound on Highway 57 to visit her parents at Priest Lake.

Davis was wearing a seat belt and escaped injury, ISP said. A 5-week old infant riding in a child safety seat inside Davis' minivan also was not harmed.

According to Nelson's father, Larry Davis, Samantha saw that Kozlowski wasn't going to stop, but it was too late to do any evasive action.

Kozlowski had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency crews. Priest Lake Ambulance responded take the accident. Kozlowski was taken to a makeshift landing spot at the Priest Lake visitor site, and airlifted by Medstar to Deaconess Medical in Spokane.

Idaho State Police, Bonner County Sheriff's Department, Priest Lake Ambulance and the Coolin-Cavanaugh Bay Fire Department all responded to the accident. Bonner County EMS officials claimed to have no knowledge of the fatal collision.

Idaho State Police is continuing the investigation.
