We should all pitch in on our litter woes

| March 11, 2006 8:00 PM

I'm really astounded by the amount of litter on our streets, roads and highways, and by Sand Creek and Lake Pend Oreille and the surrounding area. When I go walking with my friend, we both take plastic bags and pick up trash along the way.

No matter how many times we pick it up, though, it just keeps on accumulating. There's no excuse for people to litter except laziness and ignorance. We need to keep Sandpoint and our beautiful Northwest free of litter as much as possible. If each of us pick up trash when we hike, fish, hunt or go for a walk it would certainly help. Also, keep a plastic or paper bag in your vehicle for collecting your own trash.

And everyone has some sort of trash container at their home. The solution to the litter problem is simple — dispose of it properly. Teach your children to do the same. It will make a difference.

Let's all pitch in and keep our city and state and everywhere else we go litter-free.
