Lawmakers made the right move

I was pleased to hear that our local legislators are in favor of including both the land and the home values in the Homeowner's Exemption. Adding the land value into the equation creates the kind of meaningful property tax reform we need.

If adopted, it will bring additional tax relief to nearly all the homeowners in Bonner County. It has also been proposed that the exemption be adjusted over time based on changes in the Consumer Price Index. That will allow the exempt amount to increase as the cost of living increases. If approved, these measures could provide much-needed tax relief to property owners throughout the state.
