Let's engage in a civilized dialogue

| March 22, 2006 8:00 PM

I'd like to thank the promoters of the proposed rec center for their efforts, and their positive outlook after the election. I hope that they and others return to the drawing board and continue to develop a workable proposal.

As a single parent in the past, I found it difficult to utilize SWAC. In reality, it doesn't fit into the average North Idaho budget, and with so many one-parent families these kids are being set apart from the haves. They may have loving, hard-working parents but are left out of what is now a privilege to just a few. All children should be given equal opportunity to try to be their best. Then we will be raising a healthier, higher achieving generation.

For those who have attacked a very worthy idea, name called and threatened boycotts, shame on you for being viscous and for your uncalled for behavior. Adults should be a good example to youth capable of useful discussion and dialogue.

Hopefully everyone who is adamant against paying higher taxes as I am, are also writing and calling their local and state government with as much fervor as they were at opposing the rec center. Our tax problems need to be dealt with and our elected officials should be held accountable. Our Idaho children shouldn't be left behind because of poor government.

I do believe that the supporters had the communities best interest at heart, loving athletics and having the desire to promote our youth are very worthy traits.
