Gay-Straight Club promotes tolerance and understanding

| March 27, 2006 8:00 PM

As a grandparent of a lesbian, I would like to express my support for the Gay-Straight Club that has been formed at Sandpoint High School. These clubs are being formed in many areas to support tolerance and understanding.

The letter of March 21, 2006, states that it's about how an individual wants or chooses to have sex that is being taught at these meetings. I have never attended a meeting but it is my opinion being gay is not only about having sex. I believe the club was formed to create an atmosphere of understanding and tolerance for individual rights as a human being. It's an individual's right to choose someone with whom they are compatible.

Believe me, nobody chooses to live a lifestyle that is looked down upon and criticized everywhere they go. My granddaughter is who she is and I love her just the way she is. She is just a regular teenager, a good athlete, a good student and a all-around happy person. She just chooses not to date boys.
