Errors costly as Bulldogs fall to Bears

| March 30, 2006 8:00 PM

SANDPOINT — A defensive lapse in the third inning cost the Bulldogs as they were shut out against Moscow 9-0 Thursday afternoon at Travers Park.

Sandpoint committed 12 errors in the game, seven of them coming in the third inning, when Moscow plated seven runs.

"We were booting the ball around like we didn't have a purpose," said Bulldogs' coach Derek Dickinson, whose team is still a couple of weeks behind as a result of a snowy spring. "Our pitchers are throwing strikes, we're just not playing defense."

Lindsay Owens and Macaela Brady each had two hits for the Bulldogs, and Brinda Bunn and Caitlin Nusbaum one apiece in the loss. Nicole Buratto went the distance in the circle, pitching better than the score would indicate.

The second half of the doubleheader was suspended after the third inning with Moscow leading 7-5. Dickinson said he felt better about the second game, where the team played better defense and got their bats going.
