Stephen Edward Pate, 27

Memorial services for Stephen Edward Pate will be held Saturday, May 6, 2006, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Hearth Catholic Church in Pullman, Wash.

Stephen died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 3, in Seattle, at the age of 27.

He was born Nov. 30, 1978, in Los Angeles, Calif., and at the age of 2, moved to Pullman with his family. He grew up in Pullman and graduated from high school here in 1997.

Stephen was active in the Pullman Swim Club and was on the high school dive team. Following high school, he attended culinary school in Portland, Ore. He worked as a chef in restaurants.

While working at the Powerhouse Bar & Grill in Sandpoint, Idaho, he met Miranda Nguyen, who also worked there. They married on Aug. 14, 2003, in Sandpoint.

At the time of his death, Stephen worked at the Sand Creek Grill in Sandpoint. The couple has lived in Post Falls, Idaho, for the last seven months.

Stephen loved his family and liked to travel. He played baseball as a young boy and later, he loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed rock climbing, skiing, snowboarding and surfing.

He is survived by his wife, Miranda; and their son, Aidan, at home in Post Falls; his parents, Edward and Patricia Eldridge Pate of Pullman; a sister, Julie Jensen of Denver, Colo.; and his mother and father-in-law of South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Services have been entrusted to Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman.
