Dorothy Christine Kirking
Beloved wife and mother, Dorothy Kirking passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at Lifecare Center of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
A public memorial will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 13 , 2006, at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d'Alene. Viewing at English Funeral Chapel will be on Thursday, May 11 from 1-5 p.m., and Friday, May 12, 2006, from 8 a.m. until noon.
Dorothy was born on Sept. 8, 1927 in Coeur d'Alene, and was a lifelong resident. She attended public school in Potlach, Coeur d'Alene and graduated from Coeur d'Alene Beauty Academy. She worked for many years at Walden's Markets in Dalton Gardens and Clara's Corner Gift Boutique in downtown Coeur d'Alene.
She was a member of Trinity, St. Mark's and Christ the King Lutheran churches.
Her greatest joy was her family. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining her family and friends and was famous for making the world's best potato salad, among many other favorites. Dorothy maintained many lifelong family friendships that were an important and valued part of her life.
Her countenance lit up in the presence of her grandchildren or great-grandchildren. She maintained an unfailing sense of humor regardless of her circumstances until the Lord took her home. Her love of family and zest for life were an inspiration to all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Kenneth; son Kevin Kirking and daughter-in-law Judy; son Darrel Kirking and daughter-in-law Terri; daughter Dorene Russell and son-in-law Pat; brother Gary Forness and sister-in-law Marylou; grandchildren Scott (Lisa), Kim (Derek), Kamron (Julie), Tyler (Taucha), Kelly Tomblin (Travis), Tom Tomblin and Troy Tomblin; great-grandchildren Kobe, Ryen, Mykah, Kasidy, Ethan, Kaden and Payten; many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Alonzo (Lonnie) Forness and mother Pearl Forness Prosser Winch.
The family requests donations to Children's Village, 1350 W. Hanley Ave., Coeur d'Alene in lieu of flowers.
