Hugh Cozad Whitmore

Hugh Cozad Whitmore, born Aug. 8, 1925, in Lincoln, Neb., died April 20, 2006, while at a local rehab center.

Memorial services were held at the Clairemont Mortuary, 4266 Mt. Abernathy Ave., San Diego, Calif., on Monday, April 24, 2006, at 1 p.m.

He will be laid to rest at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at a later date.

Hugh served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He worked as a clinical social worker at the Methodist Children's Home and VA Medical Center in Waco, Texas.

Hugh retired in 1988 from the VA Medical Center in San Diego.

After he retired, Hugh worked in private practice with vitims of domestic violence and their perpetrators.

He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed sailing. Hugh took great pride in his home and family.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and had many close friends.

He will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna; his sisters, Hope Jones of Lees Summit, Mo., and Barbara Blood of Sandpoint, Idaho; his children, Steve Whitmore, Michelle de la Fuente, Sheryl Kemp, Teri Morales and Laura Cavanaugh; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Sisters, Esther Robinson Read and Jeanne Hax Evans, preceded him in death.
