Wampus Cats ready for state
CLARK FORK — Last season Clark Fork's Brian Young was in third place going into the final hurdle in the 300 meters, before clipping it and finishing fifth at state. Returning to state faster, stronger and a little wiser, Young figures to challenge for a state title.
"He's a strong competitor," says Wampus Cats' coach Richard Hannah of his three sport athlete. "He's got some state experience, he should be in the mix."
Young will compete in the 100 meters and the 300 hurdles. He's one of three boys going to state, including Josh Anderson in the triple jump and Austin Martin in the 300 hurdles.
On the girls' side, Freshman Bailey Hewitt will lead a young and inexperienced bunch. She'll be competing in the 100 meters, 110 hurdles, 4X200 relay and the Sprint Medley relay. Joining her in both relays will be Sterling Berkely, Abby Love, Rashell Trunnell and alternate Brittany Drayton. It will be the first taste of state for all of them.
"They're raw and inexperienced," Hannah said. "But that might just work in their favor."
The meet begins with field events and distance events Friday night at Boise State University.
