Hirning, DeMers, Bartlett lead Bulldogs

BOISE — After seven events in day one of the 4A state track and field meet, the Sandpoint Bulldogs are 12th overall with eight points heading into the final day of competition in their classification.

Charlie Hirning was the Bulldogs' highest boys finisher, placing third in the high jump at 6-feet-4, despite the fact that 6-4 was the winning jump.

"I felt I could have done better, but I'm happy with how I finished," Hirning said.

The Sandpoint senior was one of five competitors to clear the height, but ended up finishing third based on the number of attempts. Hirning was also ninth in the triple jump at 41 9-3/4.

Sheldon Cramer finished seventh in the discus and was out of the top-ten in the shot put.

Brooke DeMers finished fourth in the high jump, and Megan Bartlett placed a surprising 5th in the 3,200 meters, cracking the 12 minute barrier. The girls sprint medley finished in 8th to round out the scoring.

The meet concludes today with the running events.
