Concert showed Beber at the top of his game
For those community members, students, and SHS staff who did not attend the Sandpoint High spring concert, you missed something nothing short of magnificent. This was the concert, symphonic and jazz bands' final performance of the season. It also was the final performance for some seniors and the final performance of their band director, Mr. Beber.
Mr. Beber is retiring. It is always inspiring to see anyone retire when they are at "the top of their game" and, Mr. Beber, you and your band were just that the other night. I have attended all school band concerts since my child had a flute put in her hand years ago. I have listened and watched, not only my child, but many band members grow and mature in their music ever since they learned the notes in elementary school. It was apparent to me that Mr. Beber challenged his students, in all three bands, more than ever before. They met the challenge and, in doing so, earned the right to be called musicians.
The music was difficult and beautiful, We heard music composed by Mr. Beber himself and there must be no honor greater than to have your students perform it for you. You could see the admiration and respect they have for you, Mr. Beber; no reward is grater for a teacher. You have brought this band further than you or your students probably realize.
You will be sadly missed by them and by us, their parents. I hope your love for music will inspire others to some day lead great bands, too. Thank you for being their teacher and sharing your passion for music.
Enjoy your retirement. I hope you will have the time to "toot your horn," "march to the beat of your own drummer" and make music wherever you go.
