Coach Mike Givens of the 4A baseball state champions owes Sandpoint, his school and especially his team an apology.
His behavior during the championship game was the worst display of sportsmanship in a high school sport I have ever seen. Pictures and film have now proven that the umpire made the correct call, but even if he hadn't, the coach's conduct was reprehensible. I hope he gets a chance to review the tape taken of his behavior. It was sad that our children had to witness it.
Congratulations to the team. They came from behind and never gave up.
