LCC kept patients safe during thunderstorm

| May 29, 2006 9:00 PM

The staff at the Life Care Center in Sandpoint deserve a major kudos for their professional performance during the recent threatening storms.

The staff quickly and efficiently moved patients into the central protected area. Individual room windows were opened to prevent blowout. Detailed census was taken of patients, staff and guests. When the danger was over, routine was reestablished.

My wife is a current patient at Life Care, and in our years of military duty she has seen many examples of emergency planning and actions. We lived for a time in "Tornado Alley" in the Midwest. In Korea our living quarters were within minutes of the Demilitarized Zone and North Korea. She also lived in the Panama Canal Zone during a coup in Panama.

In none of the above events did any planning or practice meet the professional standards displayed by the Life Care Center staff.

This community is indeed fortunate to have such a facility where caring staff perform so well in an emergency.
