Five Bulldogs honored on cross country team

Seniors Frank Lagrimanta of Timberlake and Anna Stone of Coeur d'Alene were named Runners of the Year in District 1 by the district's cross country coaches.

Under the stewardship of first-year coach Matt Brass, the Bulldogs' cross country had a great eason, placing five runners on the all-District team. The future looks even brighter as the program continues to build.

Megan Bartlett, Kat Vardell and Vicky Vardell, who finished 2nd, 6th and 8th respectively in leading the girls' team to a second place state finish, were named all-District. The trio of sophomores will be the backbone of one of the top girls teams in state next year.

Despite beating Stone in numerous head-to-head competitions, Bartlett was edged out in the voting for Runner of the Year by the coaches. Bartlett, who her coach believes is just scratching her potential, will be one of the top runners in the state next year, regardless of classification.

David Householter and Steve Teran, who helped lead the Bulldogs to a sixth place finish at state, were also named named all-District.

Other boys on the all-District 1 team are Michael Armon, Nick Pierson and Lloyd Steele of Coeur d'Alene; Nic Cotton, John Coyle, Logan Frederickson and C.J. Helbling of Lake City; and Andrew Scott of Priest River.

Other girls on the all-District 1 team are Melody Braden and Casey Hampton of Bonners Ferry; Rhianna Grossman, Melissa Mitchell and Emily Wyatt of Lake City; Angie Whalen of Post Falls; and Alyssa Kimm of Coeur d'Alene Charter.
