Alura "Laura" Brockway

| November 4, 2006 8:00 PM

Alura "Laura" Brockway, 84, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006, in her home where she lived for 35 years on the beautiful Columbia River in Richland, Wash. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 25.

Alura "Laura" Foster was born in Clark Fork, Idaho. She met the love of her life, Mickey Brockway, in high school. Laura and Mickey celebrated 36 years together before Mickey passed away from cancer in 1978. The Brockway family were long-term residents of the Clark Fork Valley area and their three children were born there.

Laura is survived by three children, Larry Brockway, Lonna Brockway and Lexie Brockway Potamkin and six grandchildren, Melissa, Benny, Lanny, Alura, Ayla and Alex.

Laura loved animals and spent her childhood playing basketball, horseback riding, ice skating, fishing and playing violin. She graduated from high school as valedictorian and was editor of her high school newspaper.

The Brockway family moved every few years and it was Laura who easily made friends and taught her family to make the best of new situations. The Brockways were a closely-knit family who participated in family oriented sports, like boating, snow skiing, water skiing and horseback riding.

Laura embraced all of life with her warm, cheery, positive personality. She went through five open heart surgeries with courage, strength and a strong faith in God.

Laura traveled the world including Europe, Australia, Hawaii, Fiji and the Caribbean. She spread love and light wherever she went through her warmth and friendly smiles.

Laura was a gracious, beautiful, dignified woman and her good values, wisdom and sense of humor will live on in our hearts forever.
