Put God back in education and check out the progress

| November 8, 2006 8:00 PM

Idahoans spend 64.9 percent of every tax dollar on education each year. Yet, we rank 45th in the country on per student spending. If a quality education depended on how much money you spend, our kids would be getting a great education. Are they? Yes, money is a requirement but it's more about what we teach and how we teach that ultimately makes the difference in the desire to learn and the quality of education received. This is fact. We have solid examples of this in other states (i.e. Wisconsin, Indiana, South Carolina) where they have de-emphasized state expenditures and introduced competition and alternatives to the public system.

I want to pose a serious question that all of us should consider. Are these referenced alternatives offering better teachers, better resources, higher levels of sciences and math? No. Does that then suggest that their progress is tied to more competition and more fiscal sound management? The answer is partly yes but there is still more to the equation. Simply put, they have put God back into the process of education. Check it out. Don't just take my word for it. Facts are facts. Let those who have ears hear.

I, for one, am fed up with all the rationalization in the name of tolerance. I am fed up with the pseudo-focus on "enlightenment" while ignoring the light of the Creator. Put God back in the process and check out the difference. We will be happy we did.
